The Aransas Project is pleased to announce that three more prominent organizations with dedicated constituencies have joined TAP as member organizations.
The City of Rockport is the fourth governmental entity in Aransas County to join TAP as a member. Surrounded on three sides by bays, Rockport’s economy and citizens rely on freshwater inflows reaching the bays and creating the ecosystem that supports the tourism, fishing, and wildlife watching industries.
The American Bird Conservancy is one of the most renowned bird conservation groups in the world, having a reach and supporting community that extends across the United States. Their missionĀ is to conserve native wild birds and their habitat. ABC shares TAP’s belief that “changes in bird populations are often the first indication of environmental problems. Whether ecosystems are managed for agricultural production, wildlife, water, or tourism, success can be measured by the health of birds.”
The Galveston Bay Conservation and Preservation Association (GBCPA) was founded in January 1974, and is an organization of private citizens who are working to keep the bay waterways and adjacent land areas suitable as a recreational and living environment. GBCPA has a history of successfully fighting for bays along the Texas coast. Nancy Redmondson, chair of GBCPA said, “We try to support organizations with similar goals to ours (even outside of theĀ Galveston Bay area) and feel [TAP is] doing important work.”
